Look for an Intel Celeron N4100 or N5000 mini PC with 8GB of RAM and 128GB disk or expandable to 128GB. Security – By running these nodes on a dedicated machine, they are more isolated from your personal machines on your network.Reliability and stability – When you’re running a dedicated machine, it’s easier to keep it running 24/7 without any human input or external factors affecting it.The PC I run bandwidth sharing apps on only uses 5W on average, which costs about £0.35 a month to run 24/7. My gaming PC for example uses about 80W at idle, and easily exceeds 100W when under any load. Low power – Your gaming PC / laptop / whatever machines you have are probably not the most power efficient.Profitability, automation, security and network performance can all be improved. I just upgraded to an Edge Router X and activated SQM and my profitability has gone up a fair amount, but my gaming latency and overall network experience has improved dramatically. This enables me to run these hassle-free with only the occasional issue every few months. You can instead set up monitors to tell you if your PC goes offline, or an app stops running. You will no longer have to constantly check on your PC and your apps to make sure they’re still running without any issues. This section will tell you how to decrease the effort to zero. One of the arguments against bandwidth sharing apps is that the pay is too low for the effort required. You will need more PCs to do this, but an easier way is to set up virtual machines. Tip #3 – Run multiple instances of bandwidth sharing apps where supported. The cost of the electricity is likely to be far lower than the amount earned, but I suggest getting a power meter to measure this.
This will allow you to earn the most from these apps. Tip #1 - The best way to maximise profitability is to run multiple different bandwidth sharing apps, see the Recommended bandwidth sharing services at the bottom of the guide for links to each. If you follow this guide, you will have a steady stream of passive income with almost no effort on your part after initial setup, mitigated chances of your network being used for anything malicious, and minimal interference with your network performance. The main issues are profitability, automation, security, and network interference.
